Not a chance. You received some incorrect info. Is the place you're dealing with an AUTHORIZED Triumph dealer?

Sure are and from a previous comment this blog the Triumph Australia Tech Manager has also seen/dealt with the problem back in October 2016 and has, I believe, discussed with Triumph UK technicians.

Well the saga so far and possibly the end...From the Technical Manager Triumph Australia, Triumph UK agree they misrepresented info regarding the full specification of the heated grips. Their initial marketing advice, owners manual, and service manual were corrected to state icons couldn't be displayed on early models; first I heard of it. The heated grips work (but not to the full specification) so that's the end of the story.

To remediate requires new a electrical loom and ECU which they won't agree to.

Feeling disappointed 😔 and annoyed that I didn't opt for these accessories inside the TTSE warranty period.

I'm relatively certain there are people on this forum with launch model Trophy's that have the icon. You can't get earlier than the launch model.

First of all note that the Icons may only appear with the Grips switched ON and the engine running !

Then .......

.... icons couldn't be displayed on early models ....

Sorry, but - Bullsh#t alert !
My Trophy - Launch Model, i.e one of the first built, had / has the Icons - no problem !

..... owners manual, and service manual were corrected to state icons couldn't be displayed on early models .....

There's that :172: smell again !   :034:
I have been involved quite extensively in bringing errors within the
various Trophy publications to Triumph's attention.
( Owners, Audio, and Service Handbooks + Service Manual errata ).

To my knowledge there have only been two versions of the Owners Handbook :

The original version, that was available on the Triumph web site,
was "Issue 1" - Publication Part Number 3852642, Copywrite 09.2012, which stated :
When the heated grips are on, the symbol in
the instruments will illuminate as shown below.

The latest version ( "Issue 2" ! ) was eventually released by Triumph
and was made available on the Triumph Web site in January 2017.
This is Publication 3853701, Copywrite 04.2013,
being the most up to date version available today !

In this latest publication it also states ( Page 35 ) :
When the heated grips are on, the symbol in
the instruments will illuminate as shown below.

It would seem that someone is not telling you the truth here  :110:

Personally, I would write or email directly to Triumph UK,
( email = after.sales@triumph.co.uk ) and ask them to liaise with your Australian Dealer
directly to resolve the problem.  There are several Trophy Owners that had the same problem
and had to push Dealers that didn't have a clue to get this issue sorted.

As far as I can remember, in every case I can think of, it was simply a matter of the Dealer
not fully understanding the Menu structure of their Diagnostic Computer equipment,
and being unable to figure out how to enable the Icons, but they all got there in the end
( This was the same issue for Heated Seats Icons too ! ).

I'm 99.9% sure that these Icons CAN be enabled on your Trophy !

Cheers  :821:

SO here is another new bike that has just had heated grips installed. I tried to use them for the first time yesterday morning. And guess what?!? Grips work but no icon in the display panel. Funny thing is I believe they installed the shorting link plug because they gave me my original grips back with a plug that had no shorting wire installed. So now I am not sure what is going on!  Maybe the shorting link plug is defective?

The icon is more of a convenience really - as long as the grips actually work, it's not the end of the world to me. But I would like to have icon enabled if they can get it to work. Such a simple thing and it seems like it is so hard to make it work!   :084:

Assuming the Shorting Link is fitted
then it will need a Dealer to enable the function in their Set Up menu.

( Fairly easy to check - it sits under the Glove box
on a short length of wire coming from the loom that feeds
the Power Socket and USB Socket in the glove box )

2 screws to remove to get the Glove box out - one external and one internal,
then lift it up and rearwards to disengage the front two pegs
from their rubber grommets, and fiddle it past the clutch lever !
