More on the Numberplate First Aid Box
« on: May 31, 2014, 03:07:06 pm »
After investigating then fitting the First Aid box from Sportouring I have received a PM from a forum member concerned over the illumination of the number plate

The situation is confused (see http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/community/Forums/Categories/Topic/?topic-id=384022&start-page=10). I think there is enough light but it is clear that MOT testers do not all agree :172: :157:

I am currently investigating a perspex of acrylic section (trapezoidal prism) to stick on the bottom of the tail light to re-direct the light - but it is not clear whether I need to bother
I have checked the illumination in a darkened garage and seems OK - but what do I know?
Anyone out here got any definitive answers to this - or a source of perspex/acrylic sections that would do the job?. I have seen that some riders when fitting Tail-light tidy kit to their machine sometime add an extra LED lamp for he number plate- but that gets very messy in my view
Now got Black TTSE
Used to have Pre-Launch Trophy - lowest recorded Trophy VIN

I would just temporarily remove it when it comes to MOT time! :002:

The actual regulations are here:

The key issue seems to be the understanding of "adequately"

Any such wording as 'adequately' ends up come down to a subjective opinion....
