Anyone red lined the beast yet?
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:43:49 pm »
I only ask as I rarely get above 6000 RPM and that's enough for me, the torque is incredible.  After the Sprint GT I now know that the TT only needs 4th gear...  I think all the others are just for convenience  ;)

I did once.  When the bike had about 5000 miles on it.  Certainly the only time in the 10,000 it has on it.  As for my Sprint ST I've probably redlined it 3-4 times in 40,000 miles.  Can't agree that anything other than 1-4 are needed.  When I'm cruising at 75-100+ I certainly appreciate 5th and 6th gear.

I've thought of asking this question myself.  I was just telling some of my friends that I've never red-lined the TTSE, that it's pulling so hard at 6500-7000 it's frightening, and I couldn't imagine needing more oommph...   Of course there is a 65 year old butt sitting on it; perhaps 15 years ago I might have maxed her out... (:>

Speaking of that, at what rpm are the torque and horsepower peaks of this engine.   I've not been able to locate a good technical description of this mill.....

I have a few times. I love the bike but I'm just not that impressed with the hp/tq.

I just did the other day just to see how it went. Quite ok! In normal use even holding a gear in between corners I don't go anywhere near redline, as no need to.

From the workshop manual:

Firing order is 1-2-3
Maximum power 98.5 kw (134 PS/132 hp) at 8,900rpm
Maximum torque 120nm (88.5 lb-ft) at 6,450

so that explains why it feels like no need to go beyond 6000rpm

The engine is a desaxe design which Kevin Ash mentioned in his test http://www.ashonbikes.com/content/d%C3%A9sax%C3%A9-engines

I agree with janfmiller. My almost 65 year old body wouldn't know how to handle red line. :087:

I did several times on quiet roads on the way home from work. What a different beast!

I haven't even considered the redline. I'm also too old.

I'm rarely in 6th gear, only at high speeds on the Interstate.
My mother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said "a biker". She said I'd have to choose one or the other.
