Capacity of gear oil in final drive?
« on: June 25, 2014, 05:16:03 am »
In the near future I will have approx. 800 km and will change the engine oil and filter and also the final drive oil.   I know I need synthetic for both.
The engine will take approx. 4 litres. but the owners manual  does not say how much gear oil is required for the final drive????
I don't think it will be more than 1 litre but does anyone know how much is required?
I am really enjoying the ride and hope to get in a few short tours this summer.
Cheers,
Jim   :821:

0.17 litres of full synthetic 75W90, Castrol SAF-XO is mentioned.  A bottle should last quite a few changes, even though the manual does not specify changing it after the first service.  Honda ST1100 uses 40,000kms or three years, so that would be a guide for aminimum change interval..

Thanks for the info.
I will pick up the oil for both engine and final drive shortly.

Got the first service completed however their invoice shows 1.7 litres of final drive oil not .17.
final price for final drive oil shows 70.79.  seems a little steep.  4 litres of engine oil was 57.76.
the first service must be done by dealer to validate the warranty.
Bike is running great so far.

I would be questioning that final drive oil amount and cost. There is no way the final drive took 1.7 litres of anything!

Thanks,
So I am wondering what is the capacity of fluid in the final drive?
.17 of a litre would be very little fluid.......? If that is all it requires, I really got hosed!

I agree; no way! I got back from my 500 mile service an hour ago. My bill shows 200ml of gear oil at $9.49. For whatever reason, they did not charge me for oil and filter even though it says they changed it. I'm thinking that was an oversight. I was charged $196 for labor however...
