Looking for help - bike cutting out.
« on: July 06, 2014, 10:35:49 pm »
I've a 2001 1200 Trophy which cut out a few times on a run recently. It was a warm day and had 2 up, initially thought it was dirt in the fuel because I had only filled up 50 miles before that. The bike was running great then got caught in road works and that's were the problems started. The bike cut out but started again after standing for a few minutes. I rode on for a few miles then it cut out again. Long story short I ended up starting bike and leaving it running until it cut out, I noticed the bike was hot but the cooling fan didn't come on and the bike cut out at the point I expected the fan to come on. I am guessing the fan might have a short in it which is causing the cut out. Has anyone come across a problem like this and am I on the right track?

Thanks

Gordon

Never had anything like that but it sounds a reasonable hypothesis

I think you are on the wrong forum  - this is for the new 1215 Trophy's.  There is another forum dedicated to the previous models.

Anyway, sounds like a bad ignition pickup coil - very common on the older models.

Don't want to chase you off though!  There are several people on this forum which don't have the new model Trophy.  And a few who don't even own a Triumph!  But we all have a common interest in the new Trophy so stick around and feel free to contribute.  If you do have questions on your model Trophy that you think we might help with you might want to post in the non Trophy section.  But do stick around.
