Help! Locked key in glove box.
« on: July 20, 2014, 10:49:54 pm »
Can anyone tell me how to open top glove box comoartment without destroying it?  Locked my key in it. Don't ask how. I'm an idiot. And 150 miles from home.

Think you're going to have to 'phone a friend'. There is no work around as far as I know.

I looked in the Service Manual (not owners manual) and unfortunately it doesn't give any method other than with a key.

One of the bolts to remove it is inside the glovebox, so pretty we'll impossible with breaking it open.

Is there any way you can ground the cold side of the release mechanism and open the glove box lid that way?

Always carry a spare in your jacket. I know that does not help your current situation. I am not aware of anything that can assist other than the key.

Sorry to hear of your plight. I also have looked through the Triumph workshop manual and it says nothing for release other than normal operation and installation.

Just back from a short Scottish tour and I did take the spare in my jacket. Not helping you much now but this thread has probably brung home to all the members there are not too many options when you lock this bike up.

I looked at mine this morning and apart from gently as you can force the catch.
:187: :110:  best of luck or call a local dealer out with a master key if there is one?

Sorry about the oversight.  My extra in my jacket comes in handy when I fill up since I don't have to shut off the key and I can keep the audio on to my helmet while I fuel.  I know it's no help right now, I think we've all overlooked things at some point in time.
