Top box lid retaining straps
« on: July 21, 2014, 10:04:59 am »
Hi Guys !!

Back to a Triumph after a brief foray into the BMW market and have purchased a 2013 plate SE with 7000 miles on the clock, certainly not as quick as the K1300GT but supremely comfy and bristling with all the right tech so just getting to know it before I go off in September on a grand European tour.

So back to the top box lid straps, I have noticed that on the rim of the top box when the lid closes and the straps accidentally fold outside there are small "dents" where the straps and buckles have caught when shutting and I have come up with a really cheap and inexpensive fix for it, if you live in the UK the postman litters the streets with loads of elastic bands so pick one up and open the top box and undo the buckles one at a time and thread the elastic band into the clip and close it up, stretch it across and do the same to the other side, that's it job done no more trapped straps.

Hi tryumffy, and  :400:  to the Club !

That's a good tip - simple, cheap and effective ! :028:

Doesn't work so good with the Triumph Top Box Liner installed though,
you just have to get used to remembering to tuck the straps in every time before closing.

Cheers  :028:

I have bought a couple of extending key fob, with small carabiner, extending thingys.  I have not yet had time to try them but they automatically wind the string back in and can still be unclipped with the carabiner end.  I have held the whole thing up against the existing strap and apart from the string being a bit long it should fit.  I might just stick it on for a test rather than take the rivets out and use those holes for mounting.  I have pulled on the string just by hand and they seem very strong.

It is quite the same solution as tryumffy posted, but I use one of the straps of the side panniers and attach it to the corresponding eyelets in the topcase.
