Disturbing Rumour
« on: August 05, 2014, 08:39:05 am »
Just got back from a trip to Ireland, got talking to someone who had recently been up to the Triumph factory, whilst he was talking to me about the Trophy he said he had heard that Triumph are to phase it out, due to poor sales!! I think the Trophy accounts for approx 9% of their sales, but it would be a shame for such a great touring bike to be phased out. :161:

Has anyone else heard anything or has this guy got his facts wrong, ( I hope so ) wouldn't do much for resale values either!!

I've heard nothing.

Life has Ying and Yang.  I love my Trophy but in all honesty there are many alternate bikes.  Politicians won't speculate on if's and but's as there is no mileage in it.  Triumph has been producing great bikes in this second incarnation of the brand, I hope to be riding a Trophy for a while but as a high mileage rider most of my bikes are down to scrap value after I've finished with them.

Sun's shining think I'll go for a ride,

Later

I would say that is nonsense.

After all the money and time spent in developing it and the very positive reports from the press.

These types of bikes are never the bread and butter of their sales numbers, hence the premium prices.

I think you will see the Trophy develop over the next few years and will be around for a long time to come.

I would be surprised if this were so.  I would also be surprised if the Trophy was 9% of sales.  There are 11 or 12 model families by my count.  So if it was achieving 9% of sales then the Trophy would be punching above its weight.  From the supply delays we hear about it seems there is plenty of demand for the Trophy and given the price point I would say it remains a profitable proposition for Triumph.  Although, CPU recalls and engine top end recalls can't be helpful to the bottom line.

Yes, I said it was nonsense too. There has been a lot of R & D gone into the Trophy. That's why I asked the question, has anybody heard anything.

NEC Bike show November would e a good time to see any changes. I think the Trophy will be there competing with the rest of them.

Plus the heritage of the Trophy goes way back with Triumph.

The rumor seems rather contrary to logic.
1) Triumph has spent a good deal of time and money to make things "right" for owners of the Trophy
2) Triumph has introduced a new color in the line up
3) Triumph has said nothing to the dealers
4) So far as engine mechanicals go, they are the same as the Explorer.  If they were to cause the Trophy's downfall would they not also cause the Explorers.

Its complete codswhallop and gobbledegook.
I have a close friend who works in r&d at triumph, and the bike thats being discontinued, is my old bike the rocket.
Many many more years in the trophy yet
