Motorcycling as a metaphor for life
« on: August 13, 2014, 12:41:05 pm »
As I bimbled down some country lanes on the way to work this morning in glorious sunshine covering twice the distance of my car route to get to work I started pondering the existential as you do!

I realised that motorcycling is very much a metaphor for life.

As with a good bike run we all get to the same destination at the end of the day but it is the route we choose to get there that makes it interesting, fun and different!

Are there are any other lessons in life that motorcycling has taught you?

That every ride on my trophy SE is one more life changing experience. Sad I know but I look forward to the ride, previously I was looking at getting home as quickly as possible on my other bikes. Not sure if this is age thing.

1st bike Yamaha DT125, 2nd bike Yamaha XV535 Virago 3rd bike Honda CBR 1000 F, 4th bike Honda Hornet 600 (story to tell) 5th bike Suzuki B-King 1300, 6th bike Suzuki GSX1250 FA. Then comes the cream of them all the TTSE in Blue the best colour in my opinion ....... :-)

Unfortunately yes.  After 40 years of riding, innumerable near misses, one one major accident, 4 days in intensive care,  I am pretty certain that I will be killed by some lowlife cager who is too busy texting, talking, putting on make up, or (and this is very likely here in Texas) isn't even a licensed driver.  Every day I get on that bike I realize I am putting my life in some idiot's hands.  Morbid but true
