32,000kms service
« on: September 09, 2014, 08:36:09 am »
Just had the 32,000kms service done at 35,832 kms (I changed the oil and filter in between trips as I knew I would go over 32,000kms).  Quite involved with everything done (all filters, cam timing, greased steering head bearings etc). Interestingly 8 out of the 12 valves needed the shims adjusted as clearances had tightened up a bit. The dealer said this is unusual for other Triumph models, but they get checked more often, and might not have built up the distance I have since late November. The tune number remains the same  020808.  I also bought and fitted the tank bag for those times I might travel lighter, but then again I might just carry even more stuff!

On the brief ride back the bike seemed about the same, perhaps slightly different, but a decent ride will tell. In many ways like the ST1100, as after doing the same things it always felt about the same. Hopefully a good sign for getting over the 200,000km mark easily...

I think longer term after the warranty period it is tune/software updates from the dealer, and I will get a shim kit and do things myself as I have always done. Special tools will easily be paid for many times over.

saaz, I'm curious.  Sounds like you did not have the head replaced?

Mine is a 2014 model, so not in the VIN for the head or the various other things (centre stand bracket at least one from memory). I am in the range for the ECU replacement, which was done at 13,000kms. The motor sounds quiet enough, for a Triumph Triple that is.  I started the ST1100 the other day, and it sounds like a characterless engine by comparison (but I still like it!)
