« on: September 12, 2014, 04:16:32 pm »
Hello guys and girls

just changed the shaft drive oil after triumph had fitted a new one whilst in for the head work and noticed there was grease on the end of the drain plug ????

Any ideas as to why ????
Has anybody else noticed this ???

There should not be any grease in the final drive.  It uses a fully synthetic hypoid oil

That's what I thought but there was a blob of grease on the end of the drain plug ... Just trying to figure out why, I did wipe it clean before refilling the drive Iam just puzzled more than anything

Maybe the assembly comes packed with grease when new and your dealer failed to properly clean when installing?  Was there oil in the rear drive when you went to change it?

I'm still thinking the assembly came packed with grease when new.  Factory may have cleaned the drive but forgotten about the plug, or maybe worse factory forgot about the grease and just added oil.  Only problem with that theory is that with grease in the assembly would have been no room for oil. The 250 ml you mention is a bit much as spec is .17 litre (170ml)
