Motorcyle Equivalent of AAA
« on: September 20, 2014, 02:04:35 am »
I've seen mentioned a few time membership in a (USA) motorcycle association that provides benefits similar to AAA (primarily roadside assistance) but I can't remember the name of it.  Can someone help me out with the name.  Can't seem to find the right combination of search words

I was a member of the AMA, American Motorcyclist Association.
I tried to use the for a tow once and they were a pain to deal with.
I'm trying to decide who to go to myself.
My mother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said "a biker". She said I'd have to choose one or the other.

I have had RSA via Progressive Insurance and now via Geico. Both were good.

The AMA's towing is limited to a very short distance, only 30 miles. Truly useless for touring, or even going to the next city!

From AAA-South in my region I added motorcycle assistance to my AAA "Plus" membership for not too much more per year, only around $35 above the regular cost, as I recall, and includes four tows of 100 miles. This link is the AAA-South's member's benefits handbook (PDF). In glancing through it just now, there is more coverage than I had remembered. I suggest searching the PDF file for "motorcycle" to find the relevant passages. AAA in your region may have other options or limitations.

Yeah I've been using the AAA with the premier towing of up to two hundred miles.  I thought it would be very helpful on the long distance touring.  Interestingly the only time I used it was when my Jaguar broke down and th nearest Jag dealer was about 200 miles away. Was very helpful then.  But it is pretty expensive. Like $145 a year and gets even more outrageous if you add family members.  That's why I was looking for an alternative

I was an AMA member for a year, but didn't really see a benefit for me, especially since I'm a AAA Premier member already.  Between long bike rides & long Jeep trips, I figured that the Premier will come in handy some day!

It's beginning to sound like I should renew my AAA premier membership
