Engine Failure
« on: October 20, 2014, 06:24:51 pm »
My little 80 hour motorcycle rally ended sooner than planned for me.

The TTSE started missing and I eased into the upcoming town and made some phone calls to the dealer's (mine and the nearest). Since there was nothing I could do without removing the gas tank. Since there was no abnormal engine noise, I was hopeful that it was an injector or an electrical problem and opted to try to limp back to the nearest dealer in Fort Worth, TX about a 100 miles.

I only made 20 miles even though I was babying it as much as possible.
It sounded and smelled like a castrophic failure of the valve train.

I'll have a prognosis later in the week and will update.

I really hate it when I commit to running a yellow light and the guy in front of me chickens out.

Sorry to hear about your bike ibpete. Please keep us informed as to what happened. Who ended up with your bike? RPM Cycles? Can't remember off the top of my head the other dealership.

Bike is at Eurosport Cycle in Fort Worth, TX

Really nice folks. Went out of their way to be accommodating. Shoot for the first time in my life I was offered a loaner vehicle!! I was impressed.

Well some of the shine when away when they said I couldn't ride it home. But I understood that since round trip would have been ~2800 miles :-)

Sorry to hear it.  Had you had the head replaced under the TSB prior to this failure?

No. I had asked the dealer about it and he said it didn't apply to my VIN. I didn't verify and now I'm wishing I would have.

Bike has 40,5K miles

Travel expenses on a breakdown of this nature can be very painful.

ibpete--

It's my understanding that the cylinder head TSB applied to all of the 2013 and the early 2014 Trophys.
