« on: November 21, 2014, 12:30:24 pm »
Ok not sure which one to buy,do I go with the Tom Tom Rider or Garmin 660.
I have and use the Scala rider Q1 so it will need to be a good match with the Q1.
All advice welcome  :440:

I would recommend the Garmin 665 or the current 570. Both should have the lifetime map update service. Garmin updates the maps at least 4 times each year. (at least here in the states) There is a huge independent supporting network for Garmin as well in the form of free routable maps, and user forums. I have a 665 (that I bought used) that works wonderfully on my Trophy.

I use the Garmin 660LM in the US.  I do not need the 665 as I have an SE with the Sat Radio built into the bike.  I decided on the 660 since the Triumph mount and garmin wiring harness integrate so well into the bike.  The really great thing is that even when I am having problems with the bike radio system, I can use the garimin to play music, answer my phone, and communicate with my helmet.  My only complaint is that the Garmin 660 does not seem to process as fast as my Garmin Nuvi for my car which was significantly cheaper.  Go figure?

I've been using a TomTom Rider V since day one with the Trophy and am perfectly happy with it. TomTom also offers the lifetime map update service with its new Rider. Like for anything else at the end it's a question of personal taste and preference

TomTom's usually have a lot of functions missing, (such as elevation), when compared to Garmin.

However, there is some freeware available for it that will even give the TomTom more functions than the Garmin. Not only elevation, but stuff such as how many degrees a hill is as you're riding on it. A web search will find a lot of various software for it.
