Installing lock tumbler in top box
« on: November 30, 2014, 04:55:54 pm »
Just got the top box and can't find any instructions on installing the extra lock tumbler that came with the bike.  Any special instructions other than inserting the bike's key and installing it?  I assume it can be inserted in the hole only one way.

Hi triumphtrophyrider,

For the benefit of anyone else that may come across this post
after searching for information on this,
could you post some brief details on how it's done ?

Cheers  :821:

Sure.

Install key in extra lock barrel that came with bike.

Install barrel with key in lock location on pannier or top box.  Although there are multiple slots in this location, it will only fit in one orientation.  It will smoothly slide into the lock hole and will click once it reaches the proper depth.

Turn key to any of the 3 positions available.  It's installed and ready to use.

I couldn't find any instructions on my particular top box, but I did find a description on Triumphinstruction.com when installing the lock into a pannier for a different bike (see attachment).

Interesting.....

Is it possible to get a replacement "Original" Lock Barrel then ? My '12 TTSE came with a Top Box which has a different Lock/Key to the rest of the bike. so I'm assuming that the Top Box was purchased later..

I would really love to have the ONE Key for all the locks, rather than have to carry two keys..

Here's hoping

2012 Trophy SE MkIII (aka Sophie)

Hi Gordon3xBBB,

"New" Trophy's are usually supplied with an extra lock barrel,
keyed to the original Ignition key,
ready for installation if and when a Top Box is bought and fitted.

The lock barrel is "usually" inside the tool pouch underneath the Pillion Seat.

I don't know for sure, but would be surprised if it were not possible,
to order another barrel keyed to your original keys,
which could then be used to replace the one fitted in your Top Box
IF you can get the old one out without damaging the box !
