Trophy SE Side Pannier Bags - Fit
« on: December 07, 2014, 07:21:52 pm »
Received a 2013 Trophy SE for my birthday last September; already have 1500 miles on it (not bad for the Pacific NW).  I just got the Triumph side pannier bags and am quite disappointed - they do not easily fit in the panniers; not "molded" for the indent.  Has anyone got theirs to work or has a better bag idea?

They are a little fiddly at first, you need to lift them off of the bottom a bit and make sure they are fully seated to the back. I use mine all the time, they are really convenient as carry in luggage to the hotel, etc.  There is also a little space left around them to pack items that you can get to quickly.  Just takes a little practice to get them in place along with keeping the carrying straps and pannier tethers out of the way.

Also be careful with the pannier tethers, there have been a lot reports about them pulling through the fixing rivets.  Easy to fix, but the possibility of scratching the lids if they fall all the way open.
Cheers,
Ken

Early on I felt the same way. But I too have grown accustomed to them. I find if I take the panniers off the bike and put them on the ground (or floor) they go in much easier.

However, I've also used canvas grocery bags.
My mother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said "a biker". She said I'd have to choose one or the other.

I use the ones from my RT - tricky at first, but easier after a little practise

I ordered the bags for my Trophy and when they came in I was very disappointed with the fit.  The dealer agreed and said I didn't have to take them, if I didn't want them.  I use the bags from my Triumph Sprint ST and find they work beautifully.

I use the st1100 inner bags, they fit well enough but I can put more in them and still fit some loose things in

I agree the liners are not cut to fit well. I press in the lower inside front of each bag to fit into the bulge and set the bags in starting at the bottom. The bigger annoyance is many times the plastic connector on the pannier strap interferes with closing the lid if not tucked in 1st.

Had a custom set fitted. For just under what Triumph wanted. They fit nice and it keeps all our stuff from falling out onto the ground. :002:
