Is anyone like me considering trading in after two years to keep my TTSE in warranty, some of the residual values I've seen don't look encouraging

it crossed my mind. I bought mine as a demo model so paid no VAT, which of course when you're buying new makes a big difference. i might wait to see if they bring in an updated model though, will have a rethink a year or so

I tend to keep my bikes around 6 years which means that overall average annual cost of ownership is much less... also means that when you do come to change things have usually moved on considerably in what is being offered.
Currently I am loving my Trophy so much as it is I can see it being in the garage a good few years yet!

Fair to say depreciation on any big touring bike is quite high. Just bought a K1600 nine months old and it had lost £7500, and that was retail

I think you will find that resale is market (ie country) specific. Suffice it to say it is unlikely you will be pleased with the hit you will take if you sell after just a couple of years. As for me personally I tend to keep my vehicles a long time. My ST is 13 years old and I have no intention of selling. My Corvette is 12 years old again no intention of selling. And so forth with the rest of my vehicles. The only bike I ever sold after just couple of years was my Thruxton and I did that only to help pay for the Trophy It just doesn't pay to trade frequently

I tend to keep mine forever and a day, or until it's worthless to the point that it's junk. I never care about resale value of anything.
I always buy my bikes new.
I have owned four motorcycles since 1971 and I still have all four running like new. Or better than new, such as with my 71 BMW, which has many performance modifications.
