2013 Trophy 1200 headlight bulb replacement
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:50:17 pm »
Hi, has anyone changed a blown headlight bulb in their trophy yet? If so how do you get to the rear of the headlamps to get the darn bulbs out?  :009: any help would be appreciated...  :002:

As luck would have it I have just replaced mine with LED headlights but the process is the same.

It is not easy and basically has to be done blind.

First you need to pull off the power connector from the back of the bulb. Then remove the rubber boot around the bulb. Next unclip the wire spring clip which holds the bulb in place. Pull out the bulb and replace with a new one and then reverse the procedure.

Unfortunately, that over simplifies things. If it is just the right hand headlight then you can do this from the top. Remove the battery cover, turn the steering fully to the right. You can then see the back of the bulb and do the replacement.

For the left hand bulb you have to remove the large plastic plate under the headlight where the air temp sensor sits. Two bolts to undo then it slips forward, remember to disconnect the wires to the air temp sensor. Then remove the yoke plate, again 2 bolts. Next you go through the procedure detailed above but this is where you must do it blind with your hand up under the headlight from the front. Be prepared for cuts, scrapes and swear words.

Hope that helps.

I too replaced mine and I didn't remove anything.  I just took my phone and took photos of the inside area and got a feel for the real-estate. then by feel I just removed the dust cover and bulb and easy peasy.  Just have to be patient.

It may not be legal but I have a Dr's note!

I used a mirror and a flashlight and got it sorted ok. Only a little harder than my R1200RT was.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I find it a lot easier going from under the bottom than trying to do it from the top. One tip on the spring clip that holds the bulb, you need to push it in pretty far and slightly upward to disengage it from the hook.

I would have thought that following the Instructions contained on pages 157 & 158 of the Owners Handbook would have been a good place to start...rather than getting cross about it

Hi Gordon3xBBB,

The Owners Handbook is ALWAYS a good place to start,
but the description there on changing a Headlamp bulb doesn't
explain how awkward and fiddly it can be, epecially the first time !
