There's plenty of information to read up on in here, some of it might seem a bit daunting
when you read about some of the earlier teething problems, which all manufacturers seem
to have these days, butthese have all pretty well been resolved now.
 
Hopefully you will also pick up on the excellent manner in which Triumph have dealt with
these issues, and other individual concerns, in a generally first class way,
which can't be said of all other manufacturers.

Once you've read all the info on both / any bikes you're considering,
taking a Test Ride on them is a MUST to see which suits you best personally.

A word of warning though - when you Test Ride the Trophy -
you are likely to be seriously impressed, so take your wallet
and be prepared to put down a deposit when you return !

And once you've decided - let us know which colour Trophy you ordered ! 

Meanwhile, as your fridge is empty - have one on me !

Welcome to the forum, I have had both the Yamaha FJR and the Trophy  and there's really no compararison the Trophy is a much better bike in my opinion. You will have to sort it out for yourself but thinking in the end you will agree.

Take a test ride on both and I am shore you will choose the Trophy. I found the Trophy has better ground clearance better handling feels lighter on the move more comfortable. The good points of the FJR were I like the look of it especially the dials. The brakes and the engine are good but so are the Trophys. The biggest thing for me was the FJRs ground clearance for what is supposed to be a sporty sports tourer it was poor and I road it solo with no  luggage I would hate to take it on a twisty mountain pass with wify and luggage

Thanks to all who replied. I have test rode both the bikes I am looking at and the results for me are that the FJR thrills me, it is fast and nimble. The Trophy is light, and has the best wind protection that I have ever experienced. What prompted the change is my two sons who want to make a Vegas run this summer and I think the Vulcan would kill me. So I am leaning toward the Trophy simply because of the protection and I have to admit the gas mileage. I do worry about the dependability, as the FJR is rock solid, and I have read about the Trophy problems.
