    I admit it, Im useless

Well decided to fit the Zumo 340 on the TT mount.  What a pig of a job.  Got all the bolts out, dropped one by the battery, can find that tomorrow.  Got the satnav mount bar out and mounted the TT mount and Zumo.

Now putting it back together again  :157:

First of all, I dropped one of the bolts that  fixes the mount holder bar back in, God only knows where it went.Anyway thought I could perhaps manage without.  Can I push the 2 halves back together again :087:  I'm supposed to be going to France next week, more like I'll be taking the car...  Perhaps Im just tired, and my arm still hurts after a shoulder op.  I should have paid someone to fit the bugger..

I'm fed up, hopefully may be able to get it sorted tomorrow.

    Advice welcome

Shame you're so far away or I'd come and give you a hand !

Those magnets on an extending stick are often useful fior retrieving "lost" screws -
providing the stainless steel is the magnetic, and not the non-magnetic variety !

Not much use after the event I know, ( maybe for next time ) but one of the big advantages
of a "Smartphone" ( which everyone seems tio have these days ), is the Camera -
useful for taking Photo's of things before dismantling so you have a reference
for how it all goes back together again  :169:

I prefer my navigation system: no mounting required, very inexpensive, absolutely won't break if dropped and made of paper.  :008:

Hey neojynx, Don’t think you're the only one that has an extra screw for a ride. I also lost one putting on my heated hand grips. I striped the bike till it was a full naked. Never found it. I still look for it every time I do something on it. Sooner or later I’ll probably find it in my tire.

Well up at 5.30 this morning for a revisit.  Took  the sat bracket off and it all goes back okay.  Just need to find that darned bolt...  Otherwise a small zip tie might have to suffice.

At least I know I can get it all back sans fitting the satnav. I'll spend a bit longer trying to get that damned bar back in this morning as I might as well try and fit the bugger while it's all unscrewed..

Bit the bullet. Took the TT mount off, and put the bike back together again.  Connected the satnav to the Telferizer I already had.  Its just fine.  Only thing is the tank bank covers it when used.  Hence the reason for moving the satnav in the 1st place.

Anyway decided if I want the satnav Ill have to run tank bagless for the moment.  Feel better that the bike is now back together.   :028:

Glad you're feeling better. Sometimes blundering about you feel as though you are alone in a world of mechanical aces but of course the reality is most of us non pros spend our time working through mistakes. A nights sleep and usually a work around comes to mind.

My last  blunder was shearing off a previously over tightened sparkplug flush with head down a 4 inch hole.  2 minutes of maintenance turning into a head off engine strip but eventually managed to get of the hole literally as well as figuratively

Hope you get it sorted - you are not alone

I dropped a screw through (note the choice of words) the bike last year and searched everywhere with flashlight, magnet, and fingers and never found it, so I decided I would just go buy a metric to replace it and cut it shorter if necessary.  It had rattled off of several parts so I looked underneath on the floor first.  2 months later, getting ready to move, and clearing stuff out of the garage, and 6 feet from where I dropped it, there it lay on the floor very well concealed under clutter against the wall.  :233:
