Playing songs on USB drive randomly
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:45:14 am »
Does anyone know how to play the music on a USB drive randomly?   Also is there a way to advance to the next album or artist?

Thanks

Don't think you can do that with a USB drive. You need an iPhone or iPodto give it any sort of ’intelligence'.

Hmmm,
The audio system in my car (Kia Forte) can play music on a USB drive and it can play all the songs at random.  Maybe the intelligence, or lack of it, is in the audio system on the bike.  Still it is great to be able to play the music from a USB drive.

Thanks!!

Yes I used a USB key to start with. It was a bit irritting that the audio system wouldn't randomize. Bought my daughter a second hand iPhone 4 for Christmas and the wifi stopped working. Its now my music source.

The Trophy Audio system is designed for use with aniPod where music can be played back by Paylist,
Artist, Album etc, and the iPod device can be set to play Randomly.

It is not the Trophy Audio system that is set to make the Random playback.

For other Media players that can be connected by USB the same applies -
they need to have their own setting to be able to playack randomly.

For a USB "Thumb drive" / Memory stick  - according to the Owners Audio Handbook :

The audio system will scan the root folder and any sub-folders
of the device for compatible tracks and then begin play-backr of all tracks
by folder and then track title in alphabetical order

I use a thumb drive in the USB port to bring my music along for the ride.  To cause "random" play, I have manipulated the file names to stir things up.  If you put a number in front of the file, the bike orders by that number and then the following letter.  So, if you put 01 through 0x in front of all titles in a random sort of way,  you can simulate "random" play.  Tedious to do, but once done, it's done.  Adding titles is simple enough, just stick them in somewhere, or add to the end.  :821:

When using a thumb drive, You can use the arrow keys to advance and rewind a song and you can use the P key to move to the next folder. I use a 16 gb thumb drive as my primary music source.
