Traffic Data on the Garmin Zumo 660
    on: May 03, 2015, 03.32 pm
    May 03, 2015, 03.32 pm
I have the Garmin Zumo 660 installed on my TTSE but have yet to see a way I can get the traffic updates on it like I do on my car GPS (a Garmin Nuvi 1450).  On my Nuvi, I have a power cord with the traffic receiver integrated into the cord and it works great.  Would really like to have traffic data on the bike especially on my upcoming trip from Florida to Texas.

    Thanks

Depending on which major city you are in there are satellite radio traffic stations for particular cities that are NOT local radio broadcasts.  We used to tune them in when we travelled in the motorhome we had to avoid particularly dicey construction zones and congestion by seeking an alternate route on the gps.  Agreed, traffic on the gps would be ideal though.  I don't know if the traffic service is still available on satellite radio, or how many cities are on it, I'll have to look at a guide and post later.

What you need is the GARMIN GTM 12 TMC antenna plugged into the usb port at the end of the Zumo cable loom.
I routed the TMC cable behind the windscreen fairing when I installed the Triumph GPS bracket.
I have used the TMC with the Zumo 660 on my last 3 Triumphs.

    Mustangpilot,
Thanks!!!  Does it require a separate subscription to receive the traffic updates?

No, it uses RDS data (Radio Data System broadcast).

Not sure what is available in USA but I have a traffic monitor plugged into the USB port.  I think over here the traffic info is carried on the classic FM channel.  Works quite well except sometimes is says you are already IN a traffic jam?

Also when lane splitting it is interesting to get  an estimate of time:  20mins delay... 15mins...10mins... Etc to get to the end I expect "his did you do that"  :008:

A said above once the receiver is bought there is no subscription.

    Mustangpilot,
Thanks so much for the info.  The GTM 12 is a discontinued item but still for sale on Amazon for $169.95.  Not wanting to pay that much I found one on eBay $32.88.  I bought it and installed it and it works.  Thanks for the heads up.  Garmin tech support wasn't as helpful as you were!! :046:

    Cheers

Most of the time lately tech support for anything isn't as helpful as this forum!  Great bunch here.
