fork leak - is it just me??
« on: July 04, 2015, 05:08:27 pm »
just wheeled the bike out and noted that the lower fork was very wet with oil - never noted before or when washed a week/200 miles earlier
Bike has done ~8500 miles and is coming up to 2 years old - hopefully this will be a warranty issue

any ideas or themes in this area?
thanks
Tim

Very common problem on TTSE's even when new. But it seems nobody has the problem for a second time after the fix. Mine leaked quite badly by 500 miles and were fixed under warranty during the 500 mile service. They have not leaked a drop since then.

So get your bike to the dealer ASAP. Do NOT clean it all off, but be careful as the stuff can get to your brakes and such.

At least here in the USA the dealers  want to take photos of the forks leaking before they put in for the warranty claim.

A lot of early Trophys shipped to the US had reports of Fork Seals leaking oil,
with a far lesser amount in the UK.

Some of these WERE leaking seals, but some of them were down to the grease
which is packed inside the dust covers, that had melted in the US heat !

With the recent "warmer than usual" temperatures in the UK,
this MIGHT be what is happening, but it would be well worth getting your Dealer to check.

Wipe it off, so it doesn't get anywhere near the braking components !   :169:

Keep us posted !

is booked in for the 10k service week after next - will ensure that this is done under warranty - performance triumph have been really good with all my Triumphs (this being the third) so I have no worries there. Must admit quite fancy a play on the loan bike - street Triple methinks...(and half a day off!)

fixed under warranty at Cheltenham with no issues, apart from a day out with a Street Triple.
Now ordered a special paint 8-ball one-off from Bristol (you do need at least 2 bikes I find...)
B****y expensive service!!!!

I noticed the last time I cleaned my bike, the fork tubes had bug juice on them.  Even though the front fender covers the fork tubes, they are still getting dirty with the potential to cause the fork seals to fail.  So keep those tubes clean.   :002:
