Popping sound when coming to a stop

Has anyone else noticed the glovebox solenoid thumping every time you stop? I bought the bike new last winter and have never noticed it at all.
Now after twelve thousand miles, suddenly I hear it every time. It makes sense that it would lock when you begin to roll and unlock at stops but I can't figure
out why I've missed it for all these miles! I thought maybe it had loosened up and amplified the sound a bit through the bodywork, but it is tight and operating
smoothly. Kind of irritating hearing a loud "CLUNK" each time I stop.

There has been several folks comment about it on here. I do not keep anything of value in mine so I just removed the solenoid mechanism and use it for small item storage.

    Hi gypsy56,

Well it certainly IS designed to lock and unlock as you set off and stop  :169:

Maybe it's just a bit noiser now that the moving parts have "bedded in".

Then again, the glove box will act like a "sound box" and amplify sound -
    a bit like a guitar - but don't try strumming it !

Have you removed anything recently that use to be stored in the Glove box,
like ... gloves ! - Those, or similar could have been deadening the sound,
a bit like drummers who put cushions inside thir Bass drum - but don't try kicking it  :153:
If gloves etc have recently been removed that may be the reason for the increased resonance  :028:

Nothing to worry about - just ride and play your own tunes !

     :600:

    Cheers  :821:

No, nothing changed or moved. That's what puzzles me. twelve thousand miles and I never heard it once. Now it sounds like someone popping the side of my fairing with a hammer every time I stop. I am probably focused on it now that my ears have picked it up. No big deal, I'll get used to it.

How was this accomplished? I'd like to remove the locking ability of the glovebox because I think it's stupid. Anything I need locked goes in the topbox or panniers.

Caution, dont just pull the plug to the solenoid and refit the box and close the lid, the lid will now not open and it covers one of the two dome head fasteners so the box can not be removed, been there, although it was oversight in my case.

Luckycharms. You must remove the black panel the same as you would to get to the battery on the opposite side. Unplug the solenoid and remove the box. I believe there was just one screw holding the solenoid (been a while) I just removed the solenoid and stashed it with my other items in case I ever sell/trade the bike. I wondered about the logic of a lock on a flimsy plastic lid, keeps honest folks honest I guess.
