    Adventure bars, Help!
    on: Jul 12, 2015, 04.54 pm

    Hi guys
After laying the bike down on its side "almost stationary" cracked indicator, pannier scratches I thought it's time to get R&G Adventure bars fitted.

Installation was straight forward but after the fairings were re fitted the left side bar is sticking out from the fairing more than the right side!
After stripping the bike again to check i've fitted them correctly I found the left side R&G welded bracket fitted to the top engine mount is 30mm longer than the right side bracket hence throwing the left side bar out more than the right side!
The right side sits neatly just within the fairing at its mounting point with the two 10mm mushroom head bolts but the left side sticks out 30mm too much.

When looking at the bike from the front its instantly noticeable.
I've emailed R&G and will call them on Monday morning.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.....

    Hi Maxwell,

Not sure if you got past the stage of fitting the two "side welded assemblies"
    ( R & G's description of parts 2 & 6 )  and on to the next stage .......

Did you see my write up on fitting these over iin the "HOW TO" Section ?
If not click here : HOW TO: Remove the Fairing and fit R & G Adventure Bars
    and have a look at Photo's 22, 23, 25 & 26 for comparison  :028:

With those two "side welded assemblies" bolted in place at the left and right top engine mounting points,
the next stage ( after trying the fairings to make sure the parts fit through the grilles ), is to fit the "Spanning bar" ( Part 8 ).

Have you tried that yet, and does it fit correctly between the "side welded assemblies" ?
( i.e does it appear to be the right length ? )

If it seems like the Spanning Bar is too short, check it's length - which should be 329mm.
If the "Spanning Bar is the correct length, but seems too short to fit between the "side welded assemblies,
then double check how you have mounted the "side welded assemblies".

If the "Spanning Bar" fits correctly ( and is the correct length ) this would indicate that one of the
"side welded assemblies" has been manufactured incorrectly and one of the sets of tubes on the assembly are too long.

If R & G have supplied an incorrect part, they will sort it out very quickly - they're good like that  :028:

Yes the spanning bar fits perfect, I pulled the bike to pieces again, checked if the welded brackets were on the correct sides
    and they are.
The only thing is the 30mm extra length on the left bracket that is causing the issue.
I found the fitting easy and straight forward thanks to your "HOW TOO", I just cant understand why one bracket is longer than the other?
my wife and I are going on a month long tour of Europe in two weeks time so I hope R&G get it sorted quickly.
Going to give them a call tomorrow.

    cheers......

measured the spanning bar and it is 329mm.
    The threaded tubes are: left= 163mm & right= 133mm.

If I remember the name correctly a very helpful lady called Gemma Woodford answers the phone at R & G,
and if you explain your predicament I would be surprised if she did not have a replacement part
delivered to you the very next day  :169:

    Cheers  :821:

Gemma is correct, and she is very helpful and efficient at resolving a request.  I speak from experiences by e-mail with her that ended with the exact resolution I requested even quicker than I expected. R & G is a good company to deal with.
Here is her e-mail address: gemma@rg-racing.com
And she will probably need the invoice # and the pictures will help.
