Trade in price
« on: July 20, 2015, 08:04:17 pm »
Called with dealer last week to inquire about trading my 10 month old Trophy Se for a new one in Sept. £5000 to trade for same spec. Its not going to happen, unlikely to buy another new Trophy and definetely not from this dealer.

I wonder why they could not do better: just out to make a big profit or they cannot shift second hand Trophys.  I do not sell bikes so never had the problem just wondering.

I'm guessing the UK has equivalent resale guide books to those in the US such as Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, NADA?  Those books list resale and trade in values. How far off was the dealer?

Can I ask why you wold trade in a 10 month old bike for the same?  If it is color, you can get it painted for a lot less.

I asked to change in Sept, when it would have been a year old. New 2 years warranty, new black colour. Plan was new bike every 2 years. Not going to happen now. Goldwing hold their value

I don't see why that should PO anybody. Obviously, the dealer thinks he knows what he can get for a used bike. He obviously didn't think it was worth the trouble to offer you more and then have to try to sell it for more.

However, I have to wonder why he thinks the resale value is so ridiculously low.
