    10 days in West Virginia

Returned from spending 10  days in WV and had a ball.   WV has so many good motorcycle roads all you have to do is pick one.    There were supposed to be four of us but one guy broke his leg before the trip and could not go.   He was sitting still in the parking lot (out of the way) of a convenience store/gas station when a gut backed out of a stall and backed right into him and broke his leg in three places (go figure).

Anyhow we stayed a little north of Fayetteville WV at the New River Cabins along Rt. US 19 and Smales Rd. about one mile south of RT. 60 and would not recommend staying there.   The lot is loose gravel and it was an experience twice a day getting in and out.   The cabin was very nice, however the so called maid never appeared once to change the bedding for ten days.   We had to call the owners for more clean towels, came back from a ride to find them on the bench out front of our cabin.   The price was right ($1282.00 for ten nights split three ways) but not really worth it.

Anyone staying in or near Fayetteville must eat at Pies and Pints, absolutely great and everything they make can be had gluten free which was a necessity for one rider.   The pizzas, sandwiches and salads were outstanding and the beer was good and cold.  On the other hand Dirty Ernies Ribs on Rt. 19 (just south of the New River bridge) was a disappointment.

As far as roads I would not recommend Rt. 4 or16 south of Arnoldsburg they are very rough surface and not much fun as is Rt. 41 from Rt. 60 south to Beckely.   However if in the area you must ride Rt. 16 from Arnoldsburg north (between Rts. 33 and 50) to Ellensboro, it is 40 or so miles of the nicest surface and one curve after another with little or no straight stretches.

We also took the old road (Rt. 82) across the New River which was a real challenge for the guy on the Goldwing as it has V turns so sharp and downhill that you almost have to stand up to balance the bike.

Rt. 39 east of Summersville through the Yew Mountains and Monongahela Forest is great as is Rt. 150 that takes off from the left on 39 and comes out on RT. 219.  US 219 itself is a very good road.   I could go on and on but am probably already rambling.

Bikes were 09 R1200RT, 99 Goldwing and 13 Trophy SE.   The Trophy has yet to disappoint me in any way.

West Virginia is fun fun fun.

Cropbiker,  believe it or not I forgot to take my camera, but the Goldwinger took pics and is going to send some to me.   I can post them later if he gets them here soon.

Sounds wonderful. 10 days of riding country roads could only be 10 days of a lot of fun.

Sounds good and of course if the Goldwinger took the shots there might be more with the Trophy in.
