10 Years Ago (Where Were You)

There's currently another thread titled 10 Years Ago and it is about a totally different subject. But, the title got me thinking about where I was 10 years ago in regards to motorcycling. I thought it would be fun to see where other members were in regards to bikes 10 years ago too, maybe even post a photo. This is where I was about 10 years ago. At that time I was riding a Triumph Sprint ST in BRG. I had just finished restoring my 1976 Kawasaki KZ900 in Kawasaki green that I had purchased to restore. I purchased it for $500 from a guy who took it apart and couldn't put it back together, it was missing a few parts and had a few issues. I saw the ad of the KZ900 for sale and it brought back memories of one that I once owned back in the late 70's when I was 18 years. The Triumph Sprint was a blast, I loved the color and I loved the ride. Unfortunately I didn't get to own it for very long as it was totaled in an accident. Both bikes had awesome sound and performance. The Sprint definitely handled much better with its modern suspension, but both were still a joy in their own ways. Where were you 10 years ago in your motorcycling history?
    P.S.
I apologize, I just realized that I posted this in the wrong section and should have been posted in the section titled On Two Wheel. Moderators please fell free to move.

I don't know how to embed any photos here, but 10 years ago I had two beautiful bikes, an all silver 100th Anniversary Harley Davidson V-Rod, and a new, all black, 2004 Triumph Daytona 955i SE.  I owned several dozen other bikes before then with my very first being a new, 1965, yellow Honda Trail 90.  I was 15 -1/2 years old with a learner's permit at the time.

I just sold the Daytona 955i sport bike, which was my first Triumph "triple", and one of my all time favorites.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE INFAMOUS TRIUMPH TRIPLE HOWL!!!

Ten years ago (2005), I went down on my V-Rod at about 40 mph, trying to take a decreasing radius turn a bit too fast.  It was a freak mishap, but unbeknownst to me, the small lean angle capability on the exhaust side of that bike, was not what I was used to.  I went down hard on the asphalt and broke my left thumb.  Half my body from the waist down was black and blue for months.  That was the worse accident in 40 years of riding experience on many different makes and models - mostly Japanese, but none as big, noisy and hard to handle as a Harley.  It was a very spirit ride nonetheless.

I essentially stopped riding after that accident.  I was in my mid 50s.  I came back to riding after the purchase of  my new 2014 TTSE just last month.  It was sort of a retirement gift to myself.   Now that I'm 10 years older (and wiser), retired, and generally now seeking maximum comfort, the TTSE suits me fine.  I still like bikes with spirit, with all new modern technology, so I think my new Triumph sport touring bike, will soon take its rightful place as VERY BEST motorcycle to ride for the next 10 years.    :028:

Well 10 years ago I was riding a Triumph Sprint ST identical to yours except mine had the panniers and the top box.  And I'm still riding it to this day.  Much as I like my Trophy I continue to like my ST even more.

Ten years ago I was on a K1200LT and a year away from selling it and moving onto an R1150RT. The LT was a great bike for 2-up distance riding, but what a pig to handle at slow speed!

10 years ago I was riding a DRZ400S around the farms and woods near my house.  During that same year I added a Kawasaki Voyager XII.  The Voyager was my first Kawasaki ever and I was smitten.  Owned a string of Kawasaki bikes and would still be with Kawasaki if the W800 came to the states and the Concours got upgraded with ES and Cruise.  Love my Moto Guzzi and Triumph though.

10 years ago I was an Ex-Motorcyclist with no thoughts of returning to it.......
7 years ago I took Early Retirement (Redundancy) and bought a '81 Suzuki GN400, just like I'd had in '82 to restore.....
5 years ago I rode my first Triumph in over 30 years, my '92 Triumph Trophy 900. I bought it. Absolutely loved it, and still do..
4 years ago I bought my '97 Triumph Trophy....still got it and love it..
2 Years ago I bought a Tiger 800 which was just great but didn't quite "Cut-It" so I part-ex'd it
9 months ago I bought my '12 TTSE.....best bike I've ever owned and ridden

Sorry to "break" the nostalgic thread, but I struggle to remember where I was last month, never mind ten years ago! But all I care about is where (or if) I will be riding for the next ten years... :187:
