    Triumph North East, UK, Dealership

I have not been to Newcastle lately but I heard a rumour, and we all know what rumours are like, that Triumph North East had lost the Triumph dealership because they sold MV Augusta alongside the Triumph brand.

I have heard of Harley Dealers who had the audacity to sell supporting brands be stripped of dealership credentials but not Triumph.

Anybody put me straight with some facts?  I had planned on visiting the dealer in York for their open day on Saturday 19th December which I better do as if Newcastle Triumph is no more then I need a new dealer.

I was there about a week ago, Dave, no sign of anything changing.

    The rumour is true.

Very sad for the staff but last Tuesday Triumph turned up and removed all their stock and now the dealership have their own second hand Triumphs, new MV Augusta and some other brand used bikes.  Triumph signs are still evident but I believe these will have to be removed.

Obviously there are various versions of what has actually happened, I do know that the staff have not been paid for a few weeks and the official line says Triumph wanted too big an investment for the return on that investment.  As always money will be involved and the cost will be to those who have not got a wage as Christmas rushes forward.

Some of the staff were from the old Harley Dealership and I have heard they may well be employed by the new Harley Dealer setting up to open in the New Year in Dunston.  There is a lot of dust to settle and a lot of uncertainty.

I do not know the sales figures but would guess Triumph will want a presence in Newcastle as my nearest Dealers now are Shipley 80 miles, York 72 miles, Carlisle 61 miles or Edinburgh at 95 miles.  All pretty close but if you need a 20,000 service that's an overnight.

My thoughts are for the staff who will have an uncertain yuletide.

Bad news I wonder if triumph heard they had money issues and seems like they were owed for it then perhaps triumph decided to take their stock back before losing it.

Dealers borrow money from the manufacturer to buy the bikes they have on the showroom floor (which is why it costs them so much money to have units sitting on the floor for too long). They probably missed their payments and defaulted.

Got a letter off Triumph today.  Said they were working hard to find an alternative dealer for the Newcastle area.
Might end up back on Westgate Road.

I went to A1Moto in York for their Christmas open day on Saturday and their service manager said they would loan me a bike for my 20,000 service as they needed it overnight; I could ride home on the loaner and return when mine was ready.

Looked a good place.  Anyone use them and have feedback?
