Thank you, janfmiller for posting this.  I didn't have the manual (I do now) and this got me through the teardown stage.  Done with the shims (all exhaust valves are even and the one intake now matches the others).  It was nice to have little details like zip-tying the cam chain to the gears instead of pulling them apart like the manual says.  Have to work the next couple of nights, but after that it should be buttoned right up.

Thanks again

Hey all, going through my 20k maintenance.  This thread has been extremely helpful.  Any tips on removing a stubborn RH crankcase cover?  All 8 bolts have been removed, but the cover won't budge.

I would take a straight, thin Xacto blade and tap it very lightly between the cover & crankcase.  I think the trick is to get the separation started, then it will come off easily the rest of the way.

If the dowel pins come off with the cover, remove them from the cover and re-insert them through the cam chain rubbing blocks and into the crankcase.

That worked, thanks Jim!  Man, that was a pain to remove.

Use a rubber hammer and tap the sides of the lid.

Do not insert any tool between the cover and the crankcase (motor block), as being aluminum material it could make small cracks and cause oil leaks.
Only motorcyclists know why dogs stick their head out the car window.
