Engine off - what are those noises ?
« on: May 13, 2013, 06:36:55 PM »
With the Ignition on but engine not running I can hear 2 "unusual" noises.

Both are coming from somewhere forward of the tank and below the instrument panel.

Always difficult to describe noises - one is almost like an electronic radio interference noise,
but doesn't seem to be coming from the speakers, and the other which doesn't start until
about 20 seconds after turning the ignition on, is more of a contant tone.

I'm wondering if these are normal and / or anything possibly to do with the fuel pump or ABS pump,
not knowing whether these are active without the engine running  :084:  ??

It's the fuel system bleeding pressure from the fuel rail back into the tank.

I had wondered that too! Had meant to ask my dealer about it but other issues were more important. It's a bit annoying while working on the bike.

Trumpet,

Nope, the sounds we are referring to happen on a stone cold bike. Just put the key in, turn the ignition on and don't start the engine to see what we mean.

It is a Triumph thing. It happens always after the ignition is switched off.
With the 1050 engines, it is loud. With the 800's less. The 1200's are subtle in this respect.
BUT WHAT IS IT?  :187:
Well, I am convinced that this noise is coming from the little fax machine inside the ECU transmitting detailed information back to Hinckley, mostly how you have mistreated your bike during the last ride.  :182:
