    Top Box - Interior Lighting

Okay I think I could appreciate some lighting in OE topbox...

I've been thinking of different options and looking up different lighting options - LED, incandescent, tubes, strips, low profile, 12v socket - wired or battery - all sorts of options... not 100% happy with any yet..

Just wondering what the folks around here if or what you have done and what you think of it as a setup..any pictures of setup whatever...

I didn't want to bother with a lid switch - an easy toggle or whatever I think is sufficient for the amount of time I need it in the dark....

    Looking forward to any input...

    Cheers

Hi Brbo... someone did do this mod to their top-box and I remember it looked good. they went the whole hog with switch I think that brought it on with the lid open.

You will need to remember that to power it from the top box supply you will need the ignition on. I have thought about doing it too but quite frankly its not high priority as I don't go in the box often in the dark.

I've searched thoroughly through the archives and never found a thread...

I'm not worried about ign. power - as it would be on when required anyhow,, I'd even consider a quality slimline bat. powered something or another... even something similar to littlite

I have in he past (Goldwing) used small self adhesive cupboard or drawer lights. You just push on the to switch on and they are self contained with an LED and it's own little battery. Worked fine and does not involve wiring and a lot of fuss with connections should you remove the topbox.  Also easy to change position if you want.

Just watch out if the topbox is stuffed full as they could get switched on by the contents as you close the lid. :007:

I've been thinking about this too,.......I wish that the 12V feed in the top box were constant, that would make it so much easier to do a proper lighting mod.

What I think is worthwhile is putting a flat LED type torch on Velcro inside the lid with a slide switch to turn on. This will serve two purposes to give you light in the box when you need it but also a torch readily available for general use around the bike in the dark!

If that was a rechargeable type torch from 12 Volt you could wire it in to the supply to the top box so it is always kept charged but 'undockable' when you need it elsewhere.

Keeping it simple, no wiring hacks to perform -
how about one of these LED rechargeable waterproof torches
which sits unobtrusively in the Power socket and will charge up while riding ?

Black LED Car Torch ( UK ) / Spotlight Rechargeable Flashlight ( US )

You will then have a handy portable torch available whenever you open the Top Box  :169:

You could also fix a simple spring clip somewhere appropriate inside the Top Box
to clip it into after opening the Lid, to hold it and direct the light if you have your hands full.
