For our British friends...no decent chippy in Reading!

Hadn't been to the UK in nearly years and was really looking forward to a proper fish and chips.  Spent 3 days in Reading and scoured the centre.  Couldn't find a decent chippy. Chinese, Kebabs, Nepalese, Indian, you name it but not a real chippy in sight.   (was confined to city centre because I took the bus in from Heathrow)   What is England coming to? :187:

According to Google you needed to go to the Jolly Fryer or the Top table... but too late for you now.

I agree in many town centres there are too many other fast food options... you need to hit the coast!

Those of us who know Reading would say it is punishment on you for staying in Reading for 3 days! LOL :008:

I should have contacted me, who has a vast knowledge of YUk chips, having spent most of my life in one.    Fish and chips use to be our national dish but I believe it is now chicken tikka masala which is obtainable in most India restaurants, despite the fact it is not a typical dish in India.

Thankfully, out in the East of London where I live there is a good variety of proper fish and chip shops, so next time you are over think about the east side of london and get in touch for a grand tour of East London chipies.

Hey, maybe there is a business idea spring up.   Phil's fish and chip tours.  Only those over 200 lbs need apply.   :745: :745:

Were I headed that way I would sign up for a "Phil's fish and chips tour", out of the last 4 trips to England I've had good fish and chips at one place - a pub/restaurant in Woebley.  Even a fish and chips shop in Harrogate on our first trip there was not too impressive, and my wife's relatives in Hereford declared that there weren't any good fish and chip around any more.  You should know they were in their mid 80's at the time for some perspective.

I guess there is something good about living in Romford afterall.  There is about six reasonable Fish and chip shops within three miles of my house.   Friday night fish supper is a tradition in our house.   :028: :028:

Strange as it might seem, Birmingham is blessed with many good fish & chip shops!
