Excess electrical capacity
« on: March 11, 2016, 04:08:41 am »
Please excuse me if I don't use the proper terms, I am challenged when it comes to electrical circuits.

The manual indicates the alternator generates 70 amps, which I believe is 840 watts total.

Has anyone calculated the wattage for a stock TTSE?  I am just curious what the difference is between "stock" needs and alternator output.

The power needs for a "stock" bike are pretty dynamic. Turn signals, battery charging, fuel injectors, ECU, Canbus, screen movement, etc. all come into play. I would estimate that it is between 300 and 400 watts. Perhaps member DonTom has a clamp on amp meter to verify?

I somehow missed this message.

Other than the lamps, heated grips  and heated seat the rest of the bike should draw such little current that a few amps should cover all of the rest.

Figure every amp as 14 watts.
