Palomar Mt. Calif
« on: May 20, 2013, 04:43:25 PM »
Saturday was a Chamber of Commerce perfect. Went for a 200 mile ride with the Star Touring and Riding group from El Cajon, CA. We rode out in south east San Diego County along hwy 94 which runs along the border. Temp was perfect about 78 degF. We stopped at some little cafe I can't remember, the food was good and so was the company. The more miles I put on this bike the better. Group riding is very good for the gas mileage, I averaged over 50 for this trip.

Sunday after working in the garden for a few hours I decided to take the TT up Palomar Mountain for the first time. I've been up and down that road hundreds of times on 15 different bikes so I new this would be interesting. Slabbed it up Hwy 15 to Hwy 76 using the "Comfort" setting. It sure soaks up the bumps on the open highway. when I exited to Hwy 76 I switched over to the "Normal" setting. Just a touch more road feel just right for riding on 76 where there is some traffic until you pass the Casino's. Heading up the hill I bumped it up to "Sport". Now I've played with these settings before but never got a chance to rev it up a bit. Heading up the South Grade (its a very twisty 10+ miles to the top with lots of 180 deg turns) I could really feel what the bike was doing. Tons of ground clearance, never scraped anything, tires had loads of grip, and the bike loves to hold a nice line in a corner. I did notice the throttle was a bit sensitive to inputs mid corner, I think its just me getting used to the TBW and a light touch smoothed things out. WOW was that fun! Gotta get back there again soon! Went 100 miles averaged 59 MPG! That includes zipping along in 2nd and 3rd about 8000 rpm on the way up the mountain! LOVE THIS BIKE :046:

Thanks for the report and photos K6gad! I have very fond memories of driving around San Diego in a car many years ago - it must be something else to do it on a Trophy!
