Switch at the back of the clutch lever

    Morning All  :001:

Looking for some advice. What is the small switch for at the back of the clutch lever about? I only ask because in the last couple of days it's started clicking when using the clutch lever.

Looking at the shaft on the switch it seems to be slipping on the lever when it comes back to the the normal position.  I guess what I'm asking is if it breaks while out and about is it a show stopper and my world comes to an end or could I still carry on using it until the next service?

    Here's hoping

    Thanks

Do you mean the head light flash switch? Photo would help?

    Hi and good morning Travelling2bob

No the the headlamp flasher, it's the switch between the back of the clutch lever and the handle bar fitting, you can only see the shaft of the switch.

I will try and get a photo for later.

    Thanks

    G'day Gez,

Could be the start up safety switch ie clutch in to start?

    Cheers Guy's

As there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer I'll get back on to the dealer and ask for their advice.

Thanks to all for the suggestions - very much appreciated

Simple answer: No, you don't NEED one.

It's there as a safety precaution to stop the engine starting with drive from engine to the rear wheel. You'll thank it if you've ever had the bike on its side stand, turned on the ignition, pressed the starter, and it hasn't started BECAUSE YOU"RE IN GEAR AND THE CLUTCH ISN'T PULLED. In the UK it would fail its annual MOT test if it's not operating correctly.

If you really want to bypass it, join its Black/Yellow wire to its Black wire (the black/yellow connects through to ground, the black to the starter solenoid coil (other side of that goes to the starter switch).

To avoid the "permanent neutral light", disconnect the Black/Red wire; that goes through to the neutral switch and light.

    GezB,

That article MAY be relevant, HOWEVER we should always be very careful
when consulting any information that relates to a different motorcycle !
    ( i.e. The Previous Model { 2001 } of Trophy ! )

Having said that the "new" Trophy has Cruise Control ( which the previous model didn't have )
that is disabled when the Clutch is operated,
and also needs the Clutch lever to be pulled in when starting the engine,
so I would imagine that the same switch fitted into the clutch lever housing
    is used for both functions.
