Yeah, my Autocom is powered from the bike. It comes on with the ignition. Can't tell you exactly where it is connected as the dealership fitted it all for me as part of the PDI

Depends on the model of Autocom.  My version can be battery or bike powered, and I would think that the bluetooth dongle would need more power than a battery would provide, or else it would not last very long.  I have the Autocom hooked up directly to the battery, as that is what the installation instructions say to minimise any interference.

I think it is possible to use a battery in my Autocom unit too but as it also routes power through to the Kenwood bike to bike radios I have so it was essential to be provided with bike power.

So can you get the voice prompts through the audio with the radio turned down or does it need to be playing?

I am not sure.. I rarely listen to the radio while riding as the iPhone is always plugged in and shuffling through the music collection .. I suspect though that if the radio is turned off the Bluetooth is too so you won't hear the GPS voice prompts
