How to hook up the Zumo 590
« on: May 30, 2016, 06:28:02 pm »
I have recently bought a Zumo 590 and have installed it on my bike. I have Connected the Zumo to the audio on the bike, everything OK. But I have one question: When being on the intercom with other riders (Scala Rider G9), I am not able to hear the instructions from the GPS. If I listen to music,  let`s say an Ipod connected through the USB port on the bike, the instructions from the GPS can be heard. This is what I would like it to be. Suggestions anyone? Is the problem that the GPS is connected to the audioplug on the bike? Should I disconnect the audioplug and pair the Scala Rider rider to the GPS?

P.S. Did the installation on Saturday. Everything seemed OK, but after I had put everything back together, I got all kinds of problems. Bike wouldn`t start, blinkers didn`t work - in short; all kinds of faultcodes showing up. So back to square one, took everything apart. Sure enough, one of the Connectors inside the fascia was loose. Shoved it back in, everything back to normal.
The upside is that now I can install the GPS with original bracket in record time on the Trophy.

I think the problem is not so much of a problem than a "feature" of the Scala Intercom.

The Trophy audio system NAV output is correctly interupting other Audio output to your Scala,
such as iPod music / USB Music / Radio Station, but when you are using the Scala in Intercom
Mode to other Intercom users, that connection is dependant on the Scala software
to prioritise the connections.

You would have to check to see if there was a setting within the Scala system
to change priorities so that the NAV Output from the Trophy took priority over the Scala Intercom.

You could try disconnecting the physical audio connection to the Trophy,
and connecting by Bluetooth, which may or may not work for you,
but you would then lose one of the two available Trophy Bluetooth channels.

I'll see if I can find out anything else, and if I do I'll let you know  :028:

Disclaimer : I'm not familiar with the Scala Rider G9,
other than having read the instructions ! - This is my understanding of them :

As expected, this DOES seem to be an issue with the Scala priorities.

The GOOD NEWS is that it looks like you CAN change them  :028:

NOTE : The Trophy uses the A2DP Bluetooth protocol to connect with your Headset.

Your Scala prioritises like this :

1.  Mobile Phone or GPS
( GPS instructions from Smartphone GPS Apps and the NAV Output from the Trophy
are prioritised like A2DP audio as at 3. below )
2.  Intercom
3.  A2DP Stereo Bluetooth audio ( Trophy Audio )
4.  FM Radio ( Built in )
5.  AUX - for corded connection such as Music Players.

Section 4.3 on Page 6 of the Scala Rider G9x User manual ( see below ), states,
"A2DP audio priority can be configured to be higher than Intercom. See section 3 to adjust settings."

Unfortunately Section 3 ( Customisation and Settings ) on Page 4 of the User manual,
doesn't give full instructions on precisely how to change the priorities,
but within the Table showing which settings can be changed ( See below )
it states "Change A2DP / Intercom audio priority"
can be accomplished via any one of 3 possible methods :
  • Cardo Community ( i.e.connected to PC or Mac )
  • Smart Settings App
  • Settings Menu of the actual Device

So if you change the A2DP priorities to this :

1.  Mobile Phone or GPS
2.  A2DP Stereo Bluetooth audio ( Trophy Audio )
3.  Intercom
4.  FM Radio ( Built in )
5.  AUX - for corded connection such as Music Players.

... then none of the Audio output from the Trophy would be muted for the Scala Intercom,
and you would always hear the Trophy GPS Voice instructions.

The downside is that if you change the priorities as suggested,
and have the Trophy Radio or iPod etc playing, then you won't hear any Intercom calls !

If you only need the GPS Voice instructions, and Intercom ( when Trophy GPS isn't speaking ),
you can turn the Trophy Radio OFF, or just Select NAV as the Trophy Audio source,
and this should work for you.   :169:

If you NEED music, you will still have access to the Scala FM Radio,
or AUX input, both of which WILL be interupted by the GPS voice instructions,
AND also by any Intercom calls, as they ae both higher than Scala FM Radio
and AUX input, in the list of Scala Priorities.

Hope some of that makes sense  :087: and helps you achieve the configuration you want !

Cheers  :821:

Thanks, Coconut!
I will give it a try, have already changed the priorities through Cardo`s setup-page. Will let you know how it works out.
