Lost the cap to the final drive oil compartment

    Hi all,
Funny how life, in the strangest of ways, can make you aware of things you need to know.
My wife is taking my car to work tomorrow instead of her car. As a result, I need to move my bike to the other side of the garage. I've just been downstairs to do that, and what should I notice, but a small puddle on the concrete near the rear tyre.
A quick investigation reveals that the nut/cap which screws into the centre of the final drive housing has gone AWOL. Must have happened coming home from work tonight.
I did a quick search here, regarding oil type and quantity etc. Given that I'm out of warranty now, I'll fix it myself.
But what I'm really concerned about is, will I have caused any damage to the final drive, riding without lubricant? How far is too far?
Now to contact my dealer for a replacement cap. No doubt, they won't have any of THOSE in the country either. Grrr. :(

Was it the filler cap?, you might not have completely lost it all. If it was completely empty, it would have made a whining noise. I'd order a new cap and change out whatever fluid is left and fill it. Cant think of much more to do.

Isn't the filler cap on top of the drive housing, though? If so, then no, it's not that.
This is the one in the centre of the drive housing, facing outwards from the bike... presumably the drainage hole. As for a whining sound, I didn't hear anything, but then, I was listening to music riding home last night (although I don't have it blaring).

Filler cap is on the side, facing out.

Ahhh, ok. Well then, that's what it is!
I thought there was a filler cap on the top of the final drive housing?
I've spoken with my dealer this morning, and as I suspected, Triumph don't keep that part in the country, so it will be on back order from Hinkley. Probably another 4-6 weeks. Just f***ing great.   :233:

My phone has been running hot this morning, back and forth between Triumph Australia, and my dealer.
Turns out, it's just the cover plate (#10 in the diagram you linked to, if I'm not mistaken) that has gone missing. And apparently, the hole that that plate covers up doesn't actually go into the oil reservoir.
Which now raises the question of what exactly was it that was dripping from the hole?
Long story short, I've organised to get the bike to the dealer tomorrow, and hopefully, they can sort it out pronto.
Thanks for the input though, Zebraranger!

Had mine since new and no "cap" ever been fitted. This is a through hole and a cap would be merely decorative anyway. Hope you dont pull the paint off the drive when you remove the Gaffa tape!
