    SW Virginia

I've temporarily abandoned my plan to ride to West Virginia. Maybe next year. The most recent RoadRunner magazine had an article about riding in SW Virginia that caught my interest. I'm kind of limited to Thursday through Sunday as I start part-time teaching on Monday Aug 29 and from then on I'm committed on Monday and Wednesday.  I'm planning to head down October 6, 7, 8, 9.

High temperatures should be in the 70s, low in the 40s. I don't have anything planned except a trip to the Ralph Stanley museum and a loop into Tennessee and North Carolina. I plan laid back riding, not too spirited. I have a low cost mom and pop motel with excellent reviews picked out.

If you're interested send me a pm.
My mother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said "a biker". She said I'd have to choose one or the other.

While I can't make it, I sure do appreciate seeing posts like yours. Brightens my day to know others are enjoying their bikes and offering up companionship to like-minded souls. I look forward to the time I can take you up on these offers and join you for some rides -- laid back or spirited, doesn't matter much. :062:

Lakeview Restaurant at Fancy Gap for catfish dinner. Rt. 16 from Tazewell to Marion. 91 south out of Glade Springs to 421. Right on 421 to Bristol. 58 from Damascus to Independence. The list is long. Not going to commit just yet, but I may be up for that little ride. What motel are you looking at, odds are good I've been there. I might do that and then head down the Parkway to Maggie Valley for a few days. Hmmm, durn your hide! Now you've got me ready to wander again.

These two caught my eye. They are pretty inexpensive and get good google reviews.

NavyDad - you're in charge of the riding itinerary.

My idea was to blast down the interstate (not my favorite way to travel) on Thursday, ride Friday and Saturday, blast back on the interstate on Sunday - then back to the Grindstone!

If you are going to set Thursday aside for the trip down, Rt. 52 is a nice ride and Mountaintop sets on 52 with the Lakeview right across the road. Not as quick as the freeway, but a nice ride. Mountaintop is where I stay when on the BRP. It is an older place that was closed for a few years. The new owner (Peter) has really worked hard to bring the place back. Not the fanciest, but clean and he is a great host. Been a few years since I stayed at the Travellite so no recent opinion there. The Econolodge in Glade Spring is very nice, priced right and also closer to some nice roads.

One of my favorite rides is 52 to Huntington W.V. and then rt 10 down through W.V. to Pineville. Catch 16 into Marion Va. and then west to Glade Spring and overnight at the Econolodge. Nice days ride and a bit over 300 miles from here.

I've booked a room at the Econo Lodge in Glade Spring, VA for October 6, 7 an 8. Inexpensive, 4 star review on google, and recommend by NavyDad. More than sufficient for a motorcycle trip.

I hope to venture into Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee as well.

As it stands now there are 4 that are pretty sure they're going to make it. Triumph, Honda and BMW are to be represented.

Just returned from a three day "scouting mission" of the area. PM your email address which I managed to lose the first time and I will reveal my findings.

My wife and I rode 1500 miles in that area last month.  There's no better riding anywhere.

Lucky for you, it sounds like NavyDad has got you covered on the nice roads - he's named a bunch of them already and Chillicothe is right in the middle of it all, so he'd know!
