Phone Mount
« on: June 07, 2013, 02:18:50 PM »
I'm in the process of mounting my Samsung Galaxy S3 on the bike. My current plan is to use a 25mm ball mount in the left hand (unused) mirror thread with the USB cable running to the power socket in the lockable fairing compartment. It's only for fair weather riding, the phone has a basic Sat Nav function that I want to use on occasion. Has anyone done a similar job and has a better solution?

I haven't mounted my S2 on the Trophy, but if you use Sygic software on your S3 it will be much more  than a 'basic sat nav'! I use it all the time in my car!

I'd like a mount for my iPhone, anyone have a link to a mount for the unused mirror fitting?

Thanks

Thanks for the Sygic tip, I have downloaded the app and will try it out next week on my Pyrenees trip. It comes with a free 7 day trial. The phone mount seems to work well, it slightly obscures the left hand mirror but nothing a slight tilt of the head can't solve. Best of all for me, is the ability to plug my ear buds directly into the phone for music etc. Much better sound quality than using helmet mounted speakers.

I'm a bit ignorant about this but isn't there a concern with exposing the phone to elements.  Sudden rainstorm, that sort of thing, and your phone could be trashed.  I always just put mine in the little compartment on the side of the fairing.  Also never tried using my iphone for sat nav but I assume there are apps?

I have just bought (not arrived yet) a holder for my touch4.  It looks quite slim and not too bulky at all.  It also has a handlebar mount.  I want to adapt it to fit in the mirror mount.  I will let you know.
