I just brought home a new to me 2014 TTSE.  Everything on it is pretty much self explanatory except this little silver receptacle. Can someone identify it, please?

Definitely not standard. Perhaps a plug for a heated jacket or audio input. You'd have to pull that panel and see if anything is connected to the underside of that plug and trace it

The fuel tank panel removes easily enough ...

Undo the two exposed screws at the front end - one on either side,
and remove the riders seat to expose the two lower screws.

When all four screws are removed the panel lifts straight off.

Photo's of this can be seen from Paragraph 2 onwards in the
How to Remove the Fairing AND Fit R&G Adventure ( Crash ) Bars Topic.  :028:

I suspect that it is an audio socket for a previous helmet intercom system or similar.

    Cheers,

Per Coconut's recommendation, I haven't had the bike a full day and I took it apart. Good thing my wife didn't see that.

The receptacle is connected straight to the battery and appears to be for Gerbing heated gear.

    Mystery solved.

Now that I know this, I just cannot let that thing go unused.

We have heated jacket liners. One of the best investments we have made for our riding comfort. Your wife will love you for it.

My wife has not ridden with me and I will not let my daughter ride when it is that cold. I only do it for commute. It is not fun otherwise.
