    Bolt lost under gas tank

     :430:

I dropped a fairing fastener and it fell under the gas tank (under the seat). Not only am I missing a fastener now but I can't get the damn thing out. I now picture myself bursting in flames as it vibrates a hole in the bottom of my gas tank. :138:

Anyone else done this? It's in there- trust me.

Can you see it. I have retrieved such items with a magnet on an extending rod, much like the old extending antenna.

You can get them from tool shops  :047:

If you cant see it ignore this message and don't smoke on or near the bike  :007:
    It wasn't me !!

That under seat stowage box can be removed ( undo the screws inside and lift it straight up ),
which might allow you to see a little further down into the bowels of your Trophy.

Get a powerful torch bright light and shine it around from all angles
and around the sides too, to see if you can spot where it has come to rest.

The magnet on a stick idea "might" work - if you can see it,
or by poking the magnet into areas you cant see,
but the Fairing Screws ( if that's what you lost ) are Stainless Steel,
so they may not be magnetic ! - Check one of the others first !

    Cheers  :821:

Do you have a service due which involves the tank off? Its not too bad a job to remove the tank yourself as I had to take mine off after I spotted a clip the dealer had dropped and left on top of the engine. I was concerned it was a fuel clip, but turned out to be from the pipe to airbox. Good of him not to notice and it gave me peace of mind.  Cant see the bolt will cause damage anyway.

    Coconut,

Please do not tell Americans to shine a very powerful torch around their gas tank.  :110:

The results could be disastrous.  Remember we do not speak the same language.   :745:
