Drops to Neutral from 2nd On Downshift from 3rd

My bike has been exhibiting some behavior over the past week that I'm not liking. When downshifting to 2nd from 3rd, it has started to drop to neutral unexpectedly shortly after the shift. It did it today when setting up to make a 90* turn to the right to get on the highway. Not a super well-timed thing. Before it was a nuisance, now it has become a safety problem due to its timing.

I'm thinking I might have one of the weak shift forks that has bent and won't allow 2nd to fully engage the dogs and stay in gear. Thoughts? Am I just not pressing the gear shift lever hard enough? I have raised the lever so that my giant boots can fit under the shifter, so I wouldn't think that could be a problem. Haven't had this problem on either of the two other bikes.

Hmmmm....that sounds a bit like what I had. The bike started skipping gears and then eventually started not displaying the correct gear at all which caused all kinds of problems and error lights (plus cruise control then stopped working which was a real PITA). I suspected the problem was not the mechanical linkage but the gear position sensor. I ordered a new sensor and was surprised to see that it was of a different design and plugged into the wiring harness differently. Regardless, it fixed the problem completely and now all is well again. It looks like they redesigned the gear position sensor....at least from the original 2013 model (wish they had put a recall out for the original part instead). The gear position sensor is very simple/easy to replace if you need to go that route (won't take more than 30 min...I think).

That's... odd. It only does it for me with 2nd gear when I downshift from 3rd, which would indicate the single selector fork for that gear, IMO. I wouldn't think the gear position sensor would cause the transmission to slip out of gear?

You're right I should have clarified that it indicated I was slipping out of gear when actually I wasn't. There was never any physical problem...just an indicator problem that caused other problems with the bikes sensors.

Ah, I see. Mine is the same physical problem described on the TEX forum linked above: it goes from 3rd to neutral, or shifts into 2nd for a moment and pops into neutral on deceleration.

I'm glad this has been posted.  I have been thinking I was doing something wrong.  I've experienced the same problem for a few weeks now but always thought it was something I was doing.   I'd approach a roundabout in Third and shift down to second to enter the roundabout.  release the clutch and open the throttle a little only to discover I'm actually on Neutral.   Flounder, re-select second and away I go.   Annoying but so far it has not cost me any close encounter.   So now I know it its noy me having a heavy foot I'll speak t the shop about it.

I had this exact problem on 15 SE.  Started in the June heat of the US southwest this year.  Dealer initially suggested could be "too thin oil" from the heat, but after diagnosis repaired it under warranty.  I think the culprit was the Detent Arm Assembly because shifting has been fine since.  See attached
