Strange phone call from my Triumph Dealer

I just now got a phone call from my Triumph Dealer here in Reno. It was WRT a head update that they are doing. Kinda sounds like the old TSB for engine noise, but I am not sure. Bikes involved are 2014 and before Triumph Trophy Explorers and the TTSE.

Anyway, he (Brad) explained that my 20K service deal restarts after this work is done, which means I don't have to be concerned with that for another 20K miles from now. My TTSE has around 15K miles on it right now. So my 20K service will not be due until I have 35K miles on my TTSE.

He said he will only have the bike for a few days and it will be at no cost to me, even though my 2013 TTSE is out of warranty.

    Brad highly recommended this deal.

Anybody else here heard about this deal?

In June, I took my 2014 TTSE to the dealer to check the valves which is part of the 20k service and they mention that the bike was making more noise than normal. After notifying Triumph, they authorize to pull the engine off to see whats was the source of the noise.

They ended up taking the whole engine apart, including crankshaft, transmission, everything. At the end they found nothing wrong and at that point Triumph decided to do the head upgrade, including the distribution chain and explain that some 2014 models, outside of the original vin number range were affected. While the main bearings were showing normal wear after 42k miles, my dealer decided to change then, also under warranty.

This exploratory incursion took several months, but I was patience as I knew how important it was to find a culprit. Now I have a 48k miles bike with a new head, distribution chain and bearings that run like a baby.

    Maybe this is related.

After the bike was completed, did you notice any difference in noise or anything else?

Now the engine runs very smooth, is more responsive and less noisy. Before I  had to use premium gas to reduce the tingling noise in the engine when shifting under 4rpm, know 89 runs just fine.

I use 97 octane in my TTSE and it is very smooth, no strange noises, other than it kinda sounds like a diesel, which is normal for these bikes.

I think they will be fixing something that is not broken. But I probably should let them fix it anyway as I understand the engine gets a new warranty (even though the bike has been out of warranty for more than a year) as well as the fact my first 20K mile service will then be at 35K.

Ok, Don, I assume you meant 87 octane... Or you're spending way too much on fuel!!!   :084:

    DonTom,

I am unclear, did you have the head replaced before this call?  I have about 17,000 miles on my 13 and had the head replaced at 9,000 miles.  Is this in addition to the head replacement?  Also, if it is different than the head replacement can you please get the reference information so I can pass it on to my dealer?

    Thanks
    Chris
