Side pannier paint protection mouldings in case you drop the 'bike. .

My Trophyse '64 was ordered with non-standard colour i.e. candy-apple red and taken straight from factory to 8ball in Ripley Derbyshire to be painted.  Brilliant job but yep, expensive.  Looks a million dollars though.  Whilst reversing bike against kerb at more or less 90 degrees my right foot lost purchase and before I had time to regain balance the bike was on its side. :161:  Fortunately crash bar at front protected paintwork at front-fairing but right-hand side pannier lid slid and deep gauges were incurred. Lid back to 8ball for respray.  Mega bucks. . . sob sob.. .
Any ideas or indeed proven solutions (other than not dropping the bike) to offering protection against damage to side pannier-lids would be most welcome.

This post needs photos, not of the damage but I'd love to see a Trophy in Candy Apple Red; I have a 1951 Panhead with Candy Apple Red!

    Love, light and kindness,
