    IMPORTANT ! Triumph Datatool S4 Alarm - RECALL !

I've just been made aware of this -

If you have the Triumph / Datatool S4 Red or Datatool Triumph branded alarm fitted to your Trophy read this ! :

    Datatool S4 alarm recall

Certain Datatool S4 Red & Triumph branded Datatool alarms have been Recalled as they may,
"suffer operational issues which ultimately lead to the motorcycle becoming immobilised."

The recall notice does not say that this could happen while riding,
but there is a "safety" recommendation not ride if certain symptoms are being exhibited !

Current advice is that the alarm will not normally fail without any prior warning, but will exhibit advance symptoms
such as the alarm becoming difficult to disarm, the alarm making unexpected bleeps when arming / disarming
or the alarm LED glowing faintly when the alarm is disarmed.

Owners with alarms exhibiting such symptoms are advised NOT TO RIDE and consult Datatool.

All alarms subject to the Recall will be replaced free of charge.

To establish whether your alarm is one of those affected, check its Serial Number,
which should be present on the paperwork / certification supplied with the alarm,
or marked on the actual alarm unit.

Serial numbers comprise two sets of 8 digit numbers separated by a hyphen.
the first set of 8 numbers identifies the PRODUCT, the second set of numbers is the SERIAL NUMBER.

The affected alarm products are :
Datatool S4 Red product code - 02000140, and
Triumph branded Datatool alarm product code - 02000240.

If you have one these products, refer to the Datatool web site referred to above to identify whether your Serial number
is one of those affected, which will have been produced during the periods :

    2013 week 13 to 50
2014 all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51
2015 all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51
    2016 week 01 to 08

The recommendation to anyone with an alarm that falls within the above criteria
is NOT TO RIDE the motorcycle, and consult Datatool to arrange for a free of charge replacement.

Hi Coconut. Excuse my ignorance but is this alarm an accessory  or is it standard equipment on some bikes ? Mike.

It's an optional accessory - you will know if you have it,
and will have an Alarm Fob in addition to the Key.

    Cheers,

Hello Coconut, Thank you for the information regarding the Datatool S4 alarm

Had one fitted Dec 2016, emailed Datatool with the serial number today (Sun 29th) at 12.46 had a reply 14.08, fortunately the one I had fitted is ok.
This first class response is nearly as good as the one I had  from Garmin who took only 20 min  to respond to an email query in Oct 2016.

Excellent service from both companies :001:

I know you were making a joke, but, to be accurate, all Trophy's have a factory-fitted immobilizer (your key has a chip in it that disengages the immobilizer). This is for the alarm, which uses the immobilizer circuit to render the starter inoperative should the alarm go off. :-)

I guess because mine is a 2012 launch model, the recall is irrelevant.  However, it's good to find information like this in the forum.  I wish I could stop my alarm auto-arming after a mere twenty seconds.  At least five minutes would give me time to stick my debit card in the fuel pump and fill up without the embarrassment of a series of loud beeps, or worse, the alarm going off because I didn't disarm it in time  :012:

Just received an email today, concerning this recall, stating my Vin# might be affected.

Not even sure if this device is on my bike!  :187:
Bought this bike from a dealership who stated this was a "Factory Bike" ( my take on this is, this bike was a dealer/demo bike, which was why they were giving me a 2 year factory warranty).

2 keys were sent with the bike and look like standard keys.

Where is this device mounted, so I can check dates and serial numbers?
