    Motor noise explained?

Hello all! I've read through the forum on the engine/head TSB and was curious if someone could sum it up? I recently bought a 13 SE with 7500 miles on it and it definitely has some noise. It didn't come with any paperwork pointing to any head work. What was the real issue? Is it just noise or impending doom? I've had every sort of Hinkley Triumph so motor noise is not new to me, just seems a bit odd on this one.

There was a post a few months back about a TTSE that had a catastrophic engine failure @55,000 miles.  I'm not sure what the outcome was, but there was some mention of whether or not the TSB154 was addressed. I too have a '13, bought with 5400 miles on it. In January, I brought the TTSE to the dealer for the 10,000 mile service and the TSB154 warranty service. I had heard the engine head noise twice and only with in 1 mile of leaving my driveway.  It was a high pitched engine vibration that only lasted a few seconds. My biggest concern was whether or not the mechanic could handle the job since the service manager didn't know What the TSB154 was (engine noise). He called Triumph USA in front of me and got the ok for the repair. Only been able to put 100 miles on since the repair.  All seems well so far. Some of the other issues were a leaky fork seal and a rear TPMS that was broken in two.

Thanks for the reply! Did you buy yours from a dealer or individual? Mine was from an individual so im concerned there may be no help from the big T if its the TSB issue....

I bought mine from and individual. TSB154 was warrantied with out any question. From what I understand triumph wants to correct the issue for all who are concerned, but its not a recall. I emailed Triumph USA about the issue and they told me to bring it to the dealer. Google triumph recalls for the link.

In my case, '13 TTSE, the head noise was tappet-y, Diesel-y sounding, and was so loud I filled the ear spaces in my helmet with foam to be able to endure riding the bike.   After the head replacement noise level reduced 75% I'd say.  Still louder than any other 'modern' bike I've had, but entirely livable.  And, I can hear that 'lovely' 5-6th gear whine a lot better (:>

64,600 miles on the TTSE now.  Head was replaced at about 8000.  Glad I had it done.   Though Triumph stated there were no mechanical issues related to the noise it sounded like Impending Doom to my ears....

Thought I posted a before and after video of the sound, but can't seem to locate it now...

Well I hope they take care of this one! Love the bike and it is a great stable mate to my Speed Triple and Tiger. It just sounds bad!
