which weight oil do you run?

Factory calls for 10/40 or 10/50.  When I had the 500 mile service done the shop put in 10/50.  I tend to be pretty conservative in my riding and our temps are not often over 100 F.  I plan to change the oil at 5k (I just can't bring myself to wait until 10k) and bought Amsoil 10/40 motorcycle oil.  I just think the lighter of the two factory recommended weights will be more than sufficient and maybe even increase, albeit very slightly, mpg yet still give great protection.

What weight do y'all run?  Tried a search and found zip.

Two oil changes (3 if you count the 500 mile) and the dealer has always used 10W40, and in the Texas Hill Country we can occasionally see 100 degrees F.  Unless it's July, August, September, or one of the neighboring months and then we can regularly see 100 plus. :008:

10W40     Hot or cold temps, runs cool, smooth and quiet!

    Yippee an "oil thread"  :104:

FWIW I prefer Motul 7100 4T Synthetic Ester 10W40 when I can get it for a decent price. If not, I go for Mobil 1 Racing™ 4T 10W-40.

Why, well it just seems that my air cooled bikes ran cooler with the Motul. My Anecdotal Evidence doesn't amount to Jack Squat but it makes me feel better and it damn sure won't hurt.

    Cheers  :821:
