upgrading from a garmin 550 to a 595...3 clarification questions.

    Gents,

I broke down and purchased a 595LM-alot of reasons.  I wanted to upgrade from my 550 which nests on my RAM mount on the right handlebar.... I can't trust the Triumph "Contact" person...  What a jerk.  The rep attempts to answer questions with one vague sentence and leaves me asking more and more.  This is same contact mechanism that I asked about the software version.  He didn't know sh#t.  I got my answer from this forum via Coconut-as usual.  Sorry for the diatribe.

    1.  I am attempting to purchase an OEM bracket U.S. version.    What is the difference?
    2.  In addition to the bracket do I need the wiring harness?
    3.  According to Revzilla I don't because the 595 comes with a wiring kit that meets the requirements.   Any experience / thoughts on this.

My dealer is helping me.  I am the first to ask this and he can't get the Triumph dudes to give him a solid answer.  I think Triumph needs to get better parts folks that understand their products.   Frustrating.....Agggghhhh.

    1. Are you referring to the Triumph GPSmount? It will work with the 590/595.

    2. No the wiring harness is included.

if i remember right, the wiring kit is just for power. it just has leads for power and at the other end that plugs in to the bike wiring. The phone jack is all ready on the bike and you just plug into that. If you go that way the gps will power up and down with the turn of the key.

    All on the left side.

    Hi bigcountry  :002:

First off, you need to make sure you get the US Version of the Triumph GPS mount,
as this also includes provision for fixing the XM Satellite antenna onto it,
which has to be repositioned onto it when the bracket is fitted.
( The UK version of the bracket doesn't have the XM antenna mount ).

The Garmin cradle that is provided with a new 595LM,
fixes directly onto the Triumph bracket using 4 "standard" spaced holes.

The cradle has a wiring loom for connection of Power, which should be connected to the dedicated
"clean" power supply ( to reduce any potential interference ), that is provided on the Trophy,
located behind and below the left mirror pod - usually taped together with other wiring on the frame.

There is a Triumph connection part ( A9938122 ) with a plug on one end to plug straight into
that dedicated Power supply socket, the other end of it has two bare wires
to connect to your Sat Nav power wires ( "+" and "-" ).
( There is an in-line fuse on the positive wire, and it is a good idea to route this into the back
of the left hand mirror pod - for easy access if the fuse should ever need to be replaced ! )

The Garmin 595LM has an Audio Output cable, with a female 3.5mm jack socket -
this can be connected to the Trophy Audio "NAV" input, which is a 3.5mm male jack plug
located in the same place as the dedicated Power Supply ( Sometimes taped up and hard to find ! ).

There's an excellent "HOW TO" guide for fitting the bracket, and wiring everything up here :
HOW TO: Fitting Triumph Sat Nav Mount & Zumo 660

    Cheers  :821:

Thanks Coconut and Ohio Winger,  I'm on the right track with my purchases.   I just have to be brave enough to do it myself.  I don't like messing with wiring...  Gotta Start somewhere:)
